How’s Solar Energy Growing in the Philippines?
In 2023, the Philippines witnessed remarkable solar growth, deploying 1.7 GW of new solar capacity, as reported by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The country's Department of Energy (DOE) forecasts substantial growth for 2024, with plans to add 1.98 GW of solar capacity alongside 590 MW of battery storage as part of over 4 GW of renewable energy projects.
Looking ahead, the Philippines aims to install 15 GW of clean energy by 2030. With the nation's unique archipelagic landscape in mind, there is a growing emphasis on mini-grids and standalone clean power systems, as documented by IRENA.
